AN ANALYSIS OF FEEDBACK ON SPOKEN ACCURACY OF CONVERSATION CLASS LEVEL 1 STUDENTS AT MARIO ENGLISH COURSE OF PALANGKA RAYA
The principle purpose of the study was to describe how the tutors give oral feedbacks and students’ perceptions toward oral feedbacks given by the tutor on oral performance. This study was done by doing research at Conversation level 1 students at Mario English Course of Palangka Raya. It was in one class on the same students and the difference tutors. The analysis of the type of oral feedbacks that existed was based on Gatullo and Harmer classification where oral feedback is divided into third categorizes: (1) corrective feedback, (2) evaluative feedback and (3) strategic feedback.
The study used qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data, it used some techniques, namely: (1) observation (2) interview (3) Field notes (4) questionnaire, and (5) Documentation. In analyzing the data, used some techniques, namely: (1) data collection (2) data reduction (3) data display (4) conclusion/data verification. The subjects of the study were eight students. In analysis the data, it used some techniques, namely: (1) Data reduction, (2) Data Display and (4) Conclusion.
The results of the study were, first, the tutors in the conversation level 1 class of Mario English Course Palangka Raya used all the type of feedback as classified by Gatullo and Harmer. There are corrective, evaluative and strategic. Second, according to the students, the tutors have to give them corection and clarify their answer why inccorect is and what correct is when they have errors, there were 87,5% students agree about it and there were 12,5% students disagree if they have errors in speak English, tutor will smile. The students became more understood if the tutor concluded back their answer or did it in the end of the English lesson. The students pleased if the tutors developed their answer and gift the shade or instruction of the correct answer. The students wanted that the tutors should criticize them well. Some students prefer to fix the question by their own answer than helps by their classmates.
The writer conclude that oral feedback given by the tutors in conversation level 1 is good where the students active and high anxiety to learn in this class. The writer hope tutors will keep this type of oral feedback to be better again to handle students’ errors in spoken Englishspecially in spoken accuracy on grammar. For other writers who want to research in this place, researcher suggest to reseach about is feedback on spoken accuracy on grammargiven by the tutors to correct students errors is better.
