THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL FOR THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MTs DARUL AMIN PALANGKA RAYA
The main purposes of the study were; (1) To describe the materials used by the teacher in teaching speaking skill. (2) To describe the methods used by the teacher in teaching speaking skill.(3) To describe the activities provided by the teacher in teaching speaking skill. (4) To describe the evaluations used by English teacher in teaching speaking skill. (5) To identify the solutions done by the teacher in teaching speaking skill.
The writer used qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data, the writer used some techniques, namely: (1) Observation, (2) Interview, and (3) Documentation. In analyzing the data, the writer used some techniques, namely: (1) Data collection, (2) Data reduction, (3) Data Display, and (4) Conclusion / Data Verification. The subject in this study was 1 English teacher that was chosen by purposive sampling.
The result of the study showed that the materials used by the teacher were spoken narrative texts with simple past tense and the methods used by the teacher were group discussion where one of the students of the group should present the result in front of the class by simply reading the completed task given and the activities given by the teacher were put the students into groups. A group consisted of 5-6. Each group should discuss about tasks from the text book. Then after that one of the students of the group should present the result in front of the class by simply reading the completed task given. When it was about dialogue, two students should come forward to read the dialogue in turn.
The evaluations used by the teacher were emphasized on the vocabulary, the fluency in speaking, task given; next the teacher also evaluated some points such as, using vocabulary for making their own sentences then practicing by making a conversation.
The Solutions were used by the Teacher to solve the Problems were: first, the teacher behaves as a model in delivering vocabulary then the students are followed. Second, the students asked to be actors in playing the dialogue in the class. Third, the students were asked for memorizing some words and formed into appropriate sentences related to the materials given. Forth, the students are trained for interacting with a partner.
